In my decades experience hiring, there are only three archetypes you want to avoid:

  • Someone who has no clue. This is rare but it does happen. I have seen some fly through interviews and then literally do nothing until they leave for another company as we are set to fire them.
  • Assholes. Everyone is nice in the interviews. Not everyone is nice during code review. There is a sub-archetype of asshole called The Complainer. They can live in pairs, but if there is no Assholes, a true Complainer will find a way to turn someone into one. They are two sides of the same coin.
  • My way or the highway types. Your team uses Design Patterns and Unit Testing. Bob says that is overengineering and refuses to be a team player.

Interviews focus on the first one, which is honestly simple for a relatively experienced interviewer to weed out. I don't believe in 10X rockstar ninja programmers. Either someone has the ability or they don't.
The real keys to great hiring are good managers and cheap firing. Good managers are hard to come by, but they can be built fairly easily. Cheap firing is usually easy, if that is your goal. Some locales restrict this legally, but there is always a loophole.

China challenges USA in space | US annual security report

AC> The annual US national security report, released on April 9, 2021, devoted much space to how China is a threat to the US in space, working to match or exceed US capabilities in space to gain the military, economic, and prestige benefits that Washington has accrued from space leadership, including plans for a kilometer-long mega space station.

This is one of the Saudi’s frequently mentioned in the report in connection to two hijackers, who was being financed by a Saudi princess married to a US Ambassador:
https://911research.fandom.com/wiki/Omar_al-Bayoumi

FBI agents involved in the case had received several reports that led them to believe al-Bayoumi was a Saudi intelligence officer, living and working secretly in the U.S. His cover story was that he worked for an aviation logistics company owned by the Saudi government, but investigators found he never did any work for the company.
Bayoumi got the hijackers an apartment and helped open a bank account, obtain car insurance, get Social Security cards and call flight schools in Florida—and also threw a welcoming party for the hijackers, during which he introduced them to the local Muslim community.
The Al Saud princess https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haifa_bint_Faisal_Al_Saud?wpro

Saudis intelligence officers supported the hijackers in USA.

Before you let them up you ask if they are done then make them confirm they are done and then let them get halfway up and stall them for a second to see if they actually are done.

One big issue with tech hiring is that the vast majority of the interview pool consists of terrible candidates. Good candidates get callbacks for (almost) every job they apply for, choose to interview at a few select companies, and get offers from most of the places they interview at. Thus, they’re only briefly in the interview pool. On the other hand, terrible candidates are constantly getting rejected at every step of the process, and must continually re-insert themselves into the interview pool, and thus comprise the vast majority of interviewees.

Because of this, the interview process is not designed to efficiently handle the minority of qualified candidates, but rather efficiently weed out the majority of horrible candidates. It is therefore a terrible process for the people actually qualified to pass it.

(Note that the majority of the interview pool being terrible does not mean the majority of programmers are terrible. Assume 80% of developers are great, and 20% are bad. If the great 80% of developers only need to interview at one company to get an offer, while the bad 20% need to interview at 10 companies before either getting an offer or giving up, then only 0.8/(0.2*10+0.8)=28% of actual interviews will be with qualified candidates.)

Disposable surgical face masks for preventing surgical wound infection in clean surgery

  1. No statistically significant benefit.

Doctors won't sneeze or cough on a patient. There is a long duration of exposure, which allows breathe to permeate beyond mask into the wound being operated on. Cloth mask won't stop breath germs in that scenario.

I'll accept that what the author posted is the truth. Atlassian did not give him what he wanted or needed. And now this battle is public, he will never get anything else from them. The proverbial glove has been thrown down and they will fight you on all fronts.

To everyone else, If this happens to you, I implore you to get legal counsel ASAP, and keep it quiet. Find out all your options and strike a quiet deal with your employer. That is the best you'll ever get.

Almost any large company has much deeper pockets than you do and their reputation is more valuable that their ethics. You'll rarely win in the court of public opinion and you'll probably never get hired anywhere again. I say this even if you were 100% in the right.

restaurant ratings | Michelin | bib gourmand > stars

ToJans 7 hours ago [–]

As a Belgian consultant I've spent a lot of time on business lunches and dinners, all over Europe.
Big orgs always invited me in Michelin star restaurants. Smaller orgs usually invited me to emerging restaurants or well known local places.
If you mostly care about discovering the second kind, I would strongly suggest you to ignore the stars and take a look at Michelin's "bib gourmand rating" [0]: these are restaurants where you don't have as much protocol, food is reasonably priced, and typically places I would go to when I could choose myself…

Wuhan scientists planned to release coronavirus particles into cave bats, leaked papers reveal
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/09/21/wuhan-scientists-planned-releaseskin-penetrating-nanoparticles/

AC> New documents show that just 18 months before the first Covid-19 cases appeared, researchers had submitted plans to release skin-penetrating nanoparticles containing “novel chimeric spike proteins” of bat coronaviruses into cave bats in Yunnan, China. They expected DARPA to give them $14 million dollars in a grant to create chimeric viruses, which is a technology that would directly advance China’s bioweapons program.
